The Responsibility Marathon is a tradition of the Bohdan Hawrylyshyn Family Foundation that, year after year, inspires deep reflection on personal values. At the heart of this journey lies the Declaration of Human Responsibilities by Bohdan Hawrylyshyn. We explore its principles and plant a sunflower seed — a symbol of personal growth and awareness of ourresponsibility for the future.
«The Weave of Our Connections» — is this year’s theme. It speaks to our ability to feel each other beyond words and borders — the quiet synergy that binds us. Trust grows from this weave, and through it, we grow too. We are ready to support one another, to stay present, to stay connected — wherever we are.
How to join the Responsibility Marathon 2025?
- Get your sunflower seeds — any variety will do. (If you’re in Ukraine, you can request a seed from the special“Bohdan Hawrylyshyn” variety, and we’ll send it to you.)
- Between April 23 and May 30, plant your seed in open ground (make sure it’s a safe place). Take care of your plant and keep the soil moist. Download our planner and complete mini-challenges we’ve suggested — or create your own — to stay connected with yourself and your values throughout the Marathon.
- Make a donation to the #DemineToSaveLives initiative by the Bohdan Hawrylyshyn Family Foundation and the Ukrainian Sappers Association. We’re raising funds for a drone that will help sappers survey land before demining. The amount doesn’t matter — your action does.
- Share a post on social media about the 2025 Responsibility Marathon. Tag friends you’re inviting to plant a sunflower and support the fundraiser. Use the hashtags #ResponsibilityMarathon and #СоняшникГаврилишина, and tag the Bohdan Hawrylyshyn Family Foundation.
What’s next?
In August, we’ll share the results — how many sunflowers have bloomed and how much support we’ve gathered for our sappers. The weave of our connections is a living, invisible thread — from you to me, growing stronger and multiplying through every good deed.
