FASHION VS FAKES: New project from the Bohdan Hawrylyshyn Family Foundation

Virtual reality is rapidly becoming a part of modern life.

The amount of information is increasing at a tremendous rate, opening up new opportunities and dangers. A fake, false or partially true information that is disseminated for a specific purpose, is one of the significant threats to virtual reality. Today fakes, in the broadest sense of the word, have also become the “second” norm in many spheres of our life: design, media, politics and education. However, the reason for such mass acceptance of fakes is hidden in the consciousness of the individual, his critical thinking skills and received information. Thus, according to the USAID-INTERNEWS study, “almost 60% of Ukrainians, aged from 18 to 65, are not prone to critical thinking. Only 11% of them was able to distinguish fakes.”

Mastering the skills of critical thinking is a key competence of a modern human. That is why we created the FASHION VS FAKES project, aimed at young people who are maximally integrated into the information reality. They live, feel, think, act and plan their future inseparably from the Internet and modern gadgets.

FASHION VS FAKES is an innovative cross-sectoral educational project at the intersection of fashion, culture and media ecology. The initiator of the project is the Bohdan Hawrylyshyn Family Foundation with the financial support of the International Renaissance Foundation.

The target audience of the project is young people aged 16-25, involved in creative industries.

The aim of the project is to develop critical thinking among young people from small Ukrainian towns and cities. We believe that this creative youth forms a cultural and valuable information field in their communities.

The main part of the project is a media educational campaign, which will be implemented in the media space and on social media pages during September-October 2020.

The culmination of the project will take place in Kyiv on October 31st from 11:00 to 14:00: offline at Peremoga Space, online ‒  on the Foundation’s Facebook page.

A number of innovative educational activities are planned during the final event “Performance on media literacy”
